The historic hamlet of Kilclief is located 3 miles outside the pretty, conservation village of Strangford, along the coastal A2 road to Ardglass.
The restored cottage, originally built as a school-house in 1804, is within 3 minutes walk of the internationally renown Strangford Lough with its sandy coves and beaches, basking seals and spectacular sunrises. The Cottage offers both a relaxing retreat and a base for exploring the many attractions of the historic Lecale Peninsula and Downpatrick area as well as being within easy reach of the scenic Mourne Mountains and Ards Peninsula.
The cottage has been tastefully modernised with oil fired central heating, wood burning stove, and new from this year an en suite modern shower room and a modern, extensively equipped open plan kitchen/dining area opening out onto its own tiled patio area. While sleeping two there is an additional facility to sleep two more friends/family (additional charges will apply on application) or babies/toddlers in a cot (not supplied) for free.
Attractions include the St. Patrick's Way, Killard Nature Reserve, Kilclief Castle (open July & August) and the National Trust's Castle Ward Estate which offers a range of activities, including 34km of all-ability walks and events based within the historic House, Stableyard and Estate. From Easter Week (30th Mar - 8th April 2018) to Sunday Music (July & August), Strangford Boat Trips, Craft Fairs (August & November), cycle and canoe hire and a variety of activities on the Lough with ClearSkies there is a wealth of things to see and do.
Castle Ward is also home to the Stark Family of Winterfell from Series 1 of the hit series Game of Thrones. Wander around the historic Farm Yard with the Clock Tower from the series and Basement Display of iconic images or book a Game of Thrones Archery experience, complete with authentic costumes and bows, with Winterfell Tours (02843 723933).
Added to this are the delights of Strangford and Portaferry, both Conservation Villages linked by the famous ferry service which operates all year (except for Christmas Day). Both villages offer a range of hostelries and eateries, local crafts and well stocked food stores open 7 days a week. Portaferry is home to the NI Aquarium Exploris and the Portico Arts & Cultural Centre (as seen on Channel 4’s Great British Buildings 2017)....www.porticoards.com  for 2018 calendar including Sir Thomas allen baritone and The Bjorn Identity for Abba fans plus much more.
